AI reads what people say. Protu reads how they think

Work

When AI meets a person, it usually meets their words. The documents they wrote, the answers they typed, the profile they polished. That is a powerful way to read language, but a poor way to read a person, because people rarely describe themselves the way they actually behave.

Not because anyone is dishonest, but because self-description is the least reliable instrument we have for reading a person. We are poor narrators of our own behaviour. We remember our intentions more clearly than our patterns, and we describe who we would like to be, or who we have been at our best. When there is something to gain, the story sharpens in whatever direction is rewarded.

Behaviour has a different kind of consistency. It shows in how someone reasons through a hard decision, how they frame a problem, who they instinctively want in the room, and how they respond when things do not go as they expected. Those are not claims to believe or reject. They are evidence, and they emerge through a conversation whether someone means to reveal them or not.

That is what Protu reads. The words are the input; the behavioural patterns expressed through them are what is understood. We do not read the claim. We read the way of thinking underneath it.

This matters more as AI becomes commonplace. Cover letters are written by a model. Interview answers are rehearsed with one. Personal statements are polished until every candidate sounds like the same competent, self-aware, growth-minded professional. As the words converge, they carry less and less signal.

Behaviour does not get cheaper in the same way. Polished language is now trivial to generate; how a person actually reasons under real stakes is far harder to manufacture, and far harder to sustain across a whole conversation. It is not that behaviour can never be coached. It is that it stays the harder signal to fake, at the very moment the easy one loses its worth.

The easier it becomes to generate convincing language, the more valuable it becomes to read the behaviour that language expresses. For most AI, language is the destination. For Protu, it is the instrument. Behaviour is what we are trying to understand.
